Hakin United 3 Monkton Swifts 0 HAKIN United completed a unique hat-trick of wins over champions Monkton Swifts and secured the third league spot in the process.

But after so many years of silverware, the Vikings will now have to look back on a season of what ifs.

Two Paul Jones penalties and a sweet finish from Daniel Lincoln gave Hakin the points and edged the Vikings above arch-rivals Goodwick into third.

After a cagey opening 45 it always looked likely that it would take a set-piece to break the deadlock.

And Jonah got the chance from the spot when eagle-eyed referee Steve Williams saw Swifts defender Daniel Hart handling the ball.

Jones made no mistake and slotted his effort beyond the dive of Craig Reardon.

Hakin kept up the pressure and they were awarded with 55 minutes on the clock. Jones and winger Steve Mathias combined to release Daniel Lincoln into space and he lashed his shot across Reardon and into the corner of the net.

Swifts battled to get into the game but the Hakin back line held out well against Stephen Davies.

And with Swifts pushing forward Hakin hit on the break. Jones was put through and as he went to dance around Reardon, the keeper deliberately took him down.

Referee Williams had no qualms about awarding Hakin their second penalty of the afternoon and Jones again beat the keeper to secure a 3-0 victory.

Swifts were disappointed to lose to Hakin for a third time this season but the men from Monkton were worthy championship winners for the second successive season.
