MILFORD Haven could step out of Haverfordwest's shadow as Pembrokeshire's premier shopping destination after Haven's Head Retail Park was bought by a London-based company.

Retail investment and development firm LXB Properties Limited wants to revitalise Milford's shopping reputation after leasing the retail park from the Milford Docks Company for 125 years.

Director Steve Weston said: "Milford Haven, in retail terms, has always been in the 'shadow' of Haverfordwest, which has limited retailer demand for Haven's Head Retail Park. We are confident that our pro-active approach, and desire to work alongside the docks company and local council will enable us to deliver the breadth and depth of retail offers the residents desire and deserve.

"We have started the process of establishing not only the future aspirations of the current tenants, but also are in detailed discussions with new potential tenants. The process of trying to lift the retailer perception of Milford Haven has already begun and will continue to be pushed aggressively over the coming months."

LXB bought Haven's Head in November and Mr Weston said he is looking forward to working alongside the Milford Docks Company to enhance both the retail park and docks area.

He added: "We are very encouraged by the Milford Docks Company's desire to create additional housing, enlarged marina facilities and generally enhance the vitality not only of the docks area but of Milford Haven itself. We see the Havens Head Retail Park as being an integral part of this enhancement. With greater commercial activity and housing comes a direct need for retail enhancement. The two are inextricably linked."

The units at Haven's Head are currently occupied by Tesco, CBS, Be-Wise, Boots and Poundstretcher.
