A YOUNG Haverfordwest woman forged a cheque for £700 and paid off her bills with the money, a court heard this week.

Toni Marie Edwards was living in Rosemarket in September of last year when a cheque book belonging to the previous occupier arrived through the post.

Prosecutor Jennifer Williams told Haverfordwest magistrates: "She used the cheque, made it out to herself and forged the signature."

On Thursday October 21 Edwards went to the Abbey branch at Safeway in Haverfordwest and paid the cheque in.

But Edwards' scam was rumbled when the account holder noticed the payment on his statement.

He immediately informed the Abbey that he had not authorised the cheque and the police became involved.

Edwards, of Gerald Road, was arrested and charged earlier this month. In court on Tuesday she pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining money by deception and forgery.

Magistrates ordered reports to be prepared before sentence and adjourned the case until February 10. Edwards was released on bail in the meantime.
