Camrose 1 Hakin 2 Match abandoned at half time

Referee Phil Gale called a halt to this mud bath in Camrose at half time. The decision to start, when every other first division game had been postponed, looked decidedly optimistic.

And as conditions worsened Gale had no option.

Hakin led 2-1, and with Leighton Edwards, Steve Mathias and Michael Cooper in good form, looked set to take all three points.

But the game will now have to be replayed at a later date and both sides were left to contemplate their wasted efforts in the rain and mud.

Camrose had started brightly and took the lead after 10 minutes following a strong solo run by Steve James.

The combative midfielder shrugged off several half-hearted tackles and made it look easy as he rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into an empty net.

Hakin were soon level, however, thanks to a beautiful finish from Aeron Owens. He turned on a sixpence in the penalty area and rifled into the top right-hand corner to make it 1-1 after only 15 minutes.

Five minutes later Camrose striker Adam Hawkins missed a great chance when one-on-one with keeper Jason Morgan and from that moment on it was all Hakin.

The visitors took the lead with a hotly disputed penalty after 25 minutes. Referee Gale appeared to wave play on after an innocuous looking challenge in the home penalty area. But the ex-policeman stopped play and awarded a penalty when it became clear that Hakin had lost the advantage.

While everyone was still scratching their heads Andrew Postlethwaite stepped up to take the kick.

The unlucky Andrew Mathias did well to save to his left, only to see the ball rebound off his chest to a grateful Postlethwaite who made no mistake with the second chance.
