TRIBUTES have been paid to former county councillor Desmond Codd who died on Monday aged 83.

A former chairman of Preseli District Council, Cllr Codd was the member for Camrose until earlier this year when he stood down due to failing health.

County council leader John Davies said: "Cllr Codd was held in the highest esteem and regard by all those privileged to know him. He served his county and community with distinction and great dignity.

"His wisdom in the council chamber was valued and respected by all and his wit and humour was often a welcome relief in times of challenging debate.

"Personally, as a new member in 1999 I very much valued Cllr Codd's advice and guidance as a well seasoned and experienced public servant. He was a true son and ambassador of our county."

Having represented his constituents firstly on the Roch and Nolton Community Council, Cllr Codd was then elected to the old Haverfordwest Rural District Council. followed by Preseli Pembrokeshire District Council.

Cllr Codd also served as chairman of the Pembroke county branch of the National Farmers Union and was later chosen as the president of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Show Society.

His son Jim, one of four children Cllr Codd had with his late wife Ivy, is currently council member for East Williamston.
