Tenby 2 St Ishmaels 3 WINNING when you are not playing at your best is always a sign that a side is rapidly becoming a force to be reckoned with.

And on Saturday St Ishmaels moved proudly to the top of the table without ever hitting the level of performance they know they are capable of.

Despite scoring three goals against Tenby, Tish took their foot off the pedal and almost allowed the home side back into the contest.

The scoring was opened in the 20th minute when Paul Palmer fed striker Adam Davies who 'made no mistake with a confident 12-yard finish that left Tenby keeper Lewis Thurlow with no chance.

That lead was doubled when Palmer himself slotted home a spot-kick. Tenby defender Ben Brooks was guilty of taking Davies down in the box and Palmer coolly picked his spot and beat Thurlow.

Tish went into half-time with the two goal lead and stretched their advantage soon after the break.

A slick piece of interplay left Stefan Harteveld with the time and space to dispatch his shot into the net and secure what should have been a comfortable win for his side.

But Tenby rallied and made a game of things with two goals that left Tish eagerly waiting for the final whistle.

Some slack marking allowed Gavin Scotcher too much space in the box and he headed in past Jonathan Pawlett.

That should have just been a consolation for Tenby's hard work but Jimmy Thomas produced a moment of magic to make the result far from certain.

Thomas wriggled away from the covering defence and fired sweetly into the top corner from 20 yards.

There were a few nervous moments for Tish to see out but they held on for the points that sees them climb to the top of division one.

Tish's Phil Devonald said: "We didn't play at our best today, but in the end we got the right result."
