Burton (132 all out) lost to St Ishmaels (148 all out)

TWENTY wickets tumbled in an exciting game of cricket that saw visitors St Ishmaels narrowly come out on top.

Burton will know they had the chances to win only their third game of the season but lost wickets at key moments in the run chase.

The relegated village side kept the Tish batting line-up to a very gettable 148 and would have fancied their chances on their own pitch.

Taking to the crease first on a damp pitch, Tish battled hard but found the conditions difficult to handle.

St Ishmaels Skipper Peter Bradshaw fought his way through to 22 early on and Steven and Andrew Williams both got among the runs.

Andrew hit a solid 31 in the face of some good Burton bowling, while Steven battled to an important 26.

For the home side James Venables and John Griffiths did most of the damage with the ball, bagging seven Tish wickets between them.

Venables finished with fantastic figures of four for just 14 runs and Griffiths added three for 23.

After tea Burton found out just how tough batting was as the Williams boys showed their worth with the ball as well as the bat.

Richard Hayman began well and reached 31 but with Andrew Williams taking two for 35 and Steven bagging four scalps for 34, wickets tumbled regularly.

Steve Jones, as he has done all season, battled hard lower down the order and looked in good nick until finally falling on 37.

Three wickets from Andrew Palmer helped Tish to a narrow 16 runs win and opened up a nine point gap between themselves and fifth placed Neyland.

Burton's relegation, meanwhile, was confirmed and they will be hoping for a quick return to the first division.
