Whitland (149 for 9) lost to Cresselly (153 for 3)

CRESSELLY took full advantage of Haverfordwest and Carew's game falling foul of the weather to slash the Town's lead at the top of the table.

The game at Whitland was one of three to go ahead despite heavy rain in the morning.

And Cresselly took advantage of the conditions to restrict the home side to 149 for the loss of nine wickets, before cruising to the victory.

Most of the Whitland batting line-up found the going tough as spinner Ryan Lewis tempted the home batsmen into trying big hits that just weren't on.

The off-spinner ended the game with fantastic figures of five for 24 after ripping the heart out of the Whitland batting.

Only Paul Davies (19) Edward John and Dai Lee really looked comfortable at the crease with John top scoring with a well-crafted 43 that made up a big chunk of Whitland's final score.

Lee had fired in a powerful 39 (six fours and a six) but down the order few of the batsmen made double figures.

And after tea Cresselly showed just why they have moved to second in the table and clinched the prestigious Harrison-Allen Bowl.

Father and son opening partnership Richard and Andrew Harris began brightly with a stand of 30.

Despite Whitland skipper Paul Webb bagging two wickets and Rob Merriman dismissing Harris senior, Simon Cole held the innings together with a dominant 66 not out.

Andrew Harries had supported with 34 and Cole fired eight fours and three big sixes as he led his team to victory and ensured that Haverfordwest's lead was chopped to 39 points with two to play.
