Goodwick Utd 1 St Ishmaels 0

ST Ishmaels' great start to the season came to a shuddering halt at Phoenix Park.

Tish had won both their opening games while Goodwick had lost one and drawn one going into this clash.

But Goodwick were on top and Tish's Bob Nelson sportingly conceded that they deserved the points.

The home side had much the better of the early exchanges and young Tish keeper Chris Wilson was called into action to keep Goodwick out.

He pushed efforts from former Herbie striker Clive Marshallsay and James Dean away and kept his side level at the break.

But no heroics from Wilson were going to keep Goodwick out for too long, and so it proved.

Marshallsay broke free down the wing and his cross was the sort that attackers dream about.

The ball broke free in the box and Lee Burrows was on hand to fire into the net from just outside the six yard box.

Tish were without striker Adam Davies and didn't look as sharp up front without their top scorer.

But as Nelson said, Tish were second best on the day to Goodwick.
