The chairman of Milford Haven Twinning Association has refuted suggestions the organisation is “dying” — despite being handed a setback by the town council.
Last month, the council rejected a proposal from Councillor Tony Eden to increase its annual donation to the twinning association from £675 to £1,325.
Cllr Eden had said the donation would be a one-off to mark the 50th anniversary of Milford being twinned with Romilly-Sur-Seine in France.
“It is sad we cannot support what is effectively a dying occasion,” he said.
Association chairman Dorothy Walters said: “The reason we asked for help was to try to make it more special to promote Milford in this year, rather than our usual armistice visit.
“We accept the council was against it, what we do not accept is being called a dying organisation.”
But Mrs Walters thanked Cllr Eden for making the proposal.
“The fact he did not get anyone to second it said it all. We will carry on working with what resources we have.”
