A Milford Haven teenager has made it through to the finals of a national TV competition to find ‘Britain’s Kindest Kid.’ Rosalyn Wild is one of five finalists in the competition which is being run by Channel 5 News and Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

The competition, now in its fourth year, was set up to recognise and reward the charitable behaviour of children aged between 5 and 16.

The 15 year-old has been volunteering at Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship (PATCH) since the charity was formed three years ago. She helps sort out donations of food and clothing to greeting clients who visit the charity and helps raise awareness of the charity’s work by appearing in a play about what the charity does.

On Tuesday, Rosalyn and the other finalists went to Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister David Cameron. Mr Cameron said: “This is a remarkable group of young people and a great way of celebrating their talent and dedication. I hope other young people will see this, be inspired by their incredible positive vision and think “I can do that.”

After meeting the Prime Minister, Rosalyn said: “It was a long trip to London but it was worth it. The Prime Minister was really good to meet and it was great to tell him about the work of PATCH.”

On top of her work with PATCH Rosalyn takes an active role in looking after her elderly grandparents, cooking them a meal every day and cleaning for them.

John Low, Chief Executive of CAF said; ‘This year we had more entries than ever before and the range of inspiring stories made it hard to choose the finalists but Rosalyn stood out. I hope her story inspires others to follow her lead.’ 5 News presenter, Emma Crosby, said: ‘These kids are an inspiration and they all truly deserve to be in the final. They have demonstrated acts of real kindness which make a difference to other people’s lives.’ The stories of the five finalists will be broadcast on Channel 5 News at 5pm throughout next week and the viewers will then vote by phone, or online to nominate the person who they think is ‘Britain’s Kindest Kid.’ The winner will be announced live on 5 News on Wednesday, November 16, and will receive £1000 pocket money and £1000 to give to the charity of their choice.
