Barry John MBE and Haverfordwest’s The VC Gallery are launching a special, military inspired exhibition entitled ‘The Art of Remembrance’ today (Friday).

The exhibition features art work, photography and sculpture, created over months of travelling the county and working with local communities.

“The whole project has been sponsored by The Bluestone Foundation,” said veteran soldier and artist Mr John. “This has financially allowed us to take veterans and other members of the community on trips, all focused on creating the art for this show.”

Those involved in this ambitious project have visited a number of sites linked with military history - including Pembroke Dock Defensible Barracks, Brecon Regimental Museum, Angle Fort, Pembroke Military Cemetery, Brecon Cathedral and Heritage Centre, Sunderland Trust Museum – and viewed exhibitions by war artists.

MP Stephen Crabb will officially open ‘The Art of Remembrance’ at the Coffee Cave, 24 High Street, Haverfordwest, at 7pm today.

Works by the veterans from the VC Gallery, the Marine Cadets, Age Concern Cymru, Navy Cadets, Pembrokeshire College students, war artists and many more will be on show.
