Fighting the flab with Gammer

3:09pm Thursday 1st February 2007

British boxing champion Scott Gammer is launching a fitness scheme in his home town on Friday.

The father-of-two, who lives in Pembroke Dock, will be encouraging people aged between 11-25 to sign up to the Go4it project that offers a host of free outdoor activities.

Led by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, the project is part of a Wales-wide mission to encourage people to get more physically active and take an interest in the great outdoors.

Project Co-ordinator Tom Moses said: "We're inviting anyone aged between 11 and 25 that lives in Pembroke Dock to come along to the launch, meet Scott and find out more about Go4it!

"There'll be the opportunity to have a say on how the project works, and on activities that people would like to take part in, including things like canoeing, climbing and surfing. There's also the chance to win prizes - not to mention free food and a smoothie bar!"

The launch will be held at the Pembroke Dock Youth Centre, opposite the Blue School, at 5pm.

The Go4it scheme forms part of the national Mentro Allan or Venture Out project, funded by the Big Lottery Fund for four years, which aims to remove barriers preventing people from being more active.

A total of 15 projects are being planned across Wales, with Go4it in Pembroke Dock being the first to get off the ground.
