CHILDREN may be putting their lives at risk by playing at Hobb's Point, a county councillor fears.
Cllr Sue Perkins said she became concerned when it was drawn to her attention that as many as 70 children were gathering there, some drinking alcohol and diving into the water.
Cllr Perkins said: "This has always been a popular place for children and I wouldn't want them to stop coming here, but it's important for them to be safe.
"With so many kids jumping in the water and playing around they may not realise if little Johnny has not come up."
She went on to say she had spoken to police community saftey officers who had agreed to patrol the area more frequently.
She also suggested parents and schools should make sure they know where their children are and that they are aware of how dangerous the sea can be.
