BOOZE-fuelled crime has soared across the county and this can't continue', according to a licensing officer.

At Friday's licensing sub-committee, Pembrokeshire County Council's licensing officer, Tony Davies, presented worrying statistics showing alcohol-related offences have risen from 190 to 291 in Milford in the past year, an increase of 53%.

The figure for Pembroke Dock shot up by 232%, from 89 to 206.

Haverfordwest had a highest rate of alcohol-related crime with 585 last year compared with 310 in the previous 12 months.

Similar statistics were presented for Tenby and Fishguard.

The crimes across the county only related to those reported by the public and did not include arrests for drunkenness and public order offences.

Mr Davies said: "I am asking this committee to help combat these problems. Police officers are out dealing with drunks, getting spat at and vomited on. This can't go on."

He asked members: "When are we going to make a stand? What does this committee intend to do about it?"

He added he felt the rise was linked to licensed premises being granted extended opening hours.

"Reap what you have Sown" I didn't think it would be too long before one of the county council's licensing officers would be turning front to back over the loose licensing law granted throughout the county.

This law might be well and good for public houses out in the countryside where premise workers can usually manage isolated incidences on a low key basis, because intended criminals just haven't got the money to frequent them. For well managed parties or groups they are a good idea.

Yet to bow down to every premise well, the puppets of crime must be doing a sun-dance, they can unleash the propensity to be violent at any event.

The police should not be held accountable for this shocking accountability of growing drink-fueled crime, it's the silly licensing committee who should go out there and witness the effects of their lowering of standards by those higher up than them, more than likely the government.

Do they look at the statistics for drink related crime, all the people to terrified to venture out, all the individuals who have lost loved ones to offenses of alcohol.

Powder up some anti-drinking groups and get them out on the streets duly employ them as county council workers and award them the best of salaries
put the police back where they should be an enviable force, not overseers of drunken violence, get into the real world Pembrokeshire County Council.
