Members of the public are being warned about a postal lottery scam being sent to homes throughout the county.

Dyfed-Powys Police have received several complaints in the past few weeks from members of the public about lottery winning notifications that they have received in the post.

The letter informs people they have are the lucky winners of a large cash prize in a lottery, but before the money can be released they have to send an admin fee' which is typically £1,500 to £2,000.

The public are being warned not to send any money in response to the notifications. Similar scams were operated last year.

If anyone receives similar letters they are advised not to send any money and contact their local police station on 0845 330 2000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Another external method used by potential 'lure them in' opportunists come inside envelopes through the mail accompanying information that is quite legitimate, on a leaflet to win X amount of pounds by telephoning a premium rate number.

The companies (so called) have got around about 250,000 key rings to get rid of whilst fervently hoping the joe public will lose at least £7.50 for every one that phones them on premium. even costlier by mobile!!.

Or what about the N-HOT's (never heard of them) those charity and legacy claims of six figure cash wins that arrive in the spam content of computers not dissimilar to postal format really, they are much to well organized to be stopped.

It's a sign of the times and don't they know it.
