The ever vigilant Mercury has been alerted to new phone scam in operation.

An automated service might call your land or mobile line and inform you of a bank charge refund- say £50- and then invite you to press a number and give your bank details!

Members of the public are being warned to never give any details over the phone or internet unless absolute security is assured.

Your bank knows your details and would never need you to present them.
