In your report on the county council's decision to increase trade waste collection charges by 60% (Mercury, November 9), the leader, Cllr John Davies, was quoted as saying that the council could not be seen to be subsidising the private sector.' The county council received £26million last year in respect of business rates, so any subsidisation is in the other direction.
