I HAVE just discovered that our new Police and Crime Commissioner, Christopher Salmon, is proposing a 3.9% increase in the police precept, to around £200 per annum for a band D property for next year.

This is totally unacceptable and it comes in addition to a further increase in the overall council tax bill.

St Davids has recently had its small police station closed, and policemen on the ground are rarer than hen’s teeth in this part of the world. Why should we pay more at a time of reducing police numbers?

I wonder how long it would take for the police to respond to a burglary in this area?

I did not vote in the police commissioner election because I felt that the two candidates were too politically affiliated.

I remain totally unimpressed, and suggest that this proposal is reconsidered.
