HEATHER Scammell’s response to my balanced letter re organ donation was a plausible, personally experienced font of information of a respected, sensitive issue.
I am not smug, cocking a snook at anything to do with the issue, but an honest person who says what they mean and criticism shows my views have worked.
No, Mrs Scammell, unlike you, whom I applaud, offer my genuine sympathies at your massive loss and admire you and your family’s decision to donate for the good of others, I have never had to make such a decision but my resolve knows what my decision, should the terrible situation occur, be... it would be YES!
I have said I have never been in this situation but bereavement visited me at under 21 years of age when I lost a child, presumed consent donation not even heard of universally then, and other bereavements followed as is the sad pattern of life as in parents and friends and other members of family.
At least we both agree this has highlighted such a sensitive issue of great importance for the future of so many others. I respect and pray for you and your family with the greatest of respect.
