A REPORT in a national tabloid was highlighting the possibility of charging for certain operations normally available free on ‘’OUR’’ National Health Service in many hospitals in England and where else in the UK perhaps?
The NHS was left as a legacy by that rare breed of politician who was truthful to his voters who elected him and also the entire country by being an honest MP and his name was Nye Bevan.
His NHS was a gift to the nation not the political, vote inducing governments of the day since plaything for their murky devices. Hands off !
Before emigrating healthcare was a major priority in that decision as I have eternal thanks to the NHS for care I have received in many hospitals .It still concerns me as I still have family living in the UK even though I do not.
Recently I just came out of hospital in Spain for a second time and the concerns I may have had before moving certainly have been erased.
I received excellent free healthcare, the cleanliness was second to none and the meals were as worthy of any five star hotel in all respect.
Also, all you needed to take into hospital were toiletries as all patients are obliged to wear hospital provided pyjamas, clean ones on a daily basis and towels also provided also refreshed on a daily basis.
One thing that did amuse me was that relatives are basically allowed in continually throughout the day and one relative actually stays overnight sleeping by the bedside of the family member patient.
I even had a neighbouring patient’s overnight relative bringing in her airbed which was used nightly and stood against a wall during the day.
The Spanish could not understand how my wife only spent five hours in the afternoon visiting me or why the rest of my family had not flown out to visit.
I was known as the Englishman ‘Senor Solo’. Imagine this visiting practice happening in UK hospitals?
Back to the point of my correspondence, it only has to be emphasised that the idea of charging should quite firmly be thrown into ‘not on ..bad idea bin’ !
