THE spirit of Christmas is still alive but with the Salvation Army it is all year round,whenever,where-ever or whoever. The letter from the alone lady re Christmas lunch and this organisation’s reply is no surprise, to me at least. I have the greatest respect for the SA. My late mother told me many times of the time when at six years old their family house took fire, they had to abandon it.
The first people offering help were The Salvation Army, not the religion she belonged to or others.
My mother insisted we always supported The Salvation Army although being devout Catholics.
I have never forgot to this day plus I remember Sunday mornings with their band going around our pit row streets playing and singing, also at the seaside in the summer months. I hope the lady wanting to share Christmas dinner with company takes up their offer.
She will certainly be in the best of company and be made welcome without any commitment.
