RE: The pension debate.
AS a lowly local government retiree, I would like to take to task Mr Adams’ understanding of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
Employees contribute (pretax) a percentage of their earnings over their working life. The employer subscribes a larger amount each month to the scheme.
There is no entitlement to this ‘cash’ by the employee - it is simply an addition to the overall fund.
To say that the employee receives the employer’s contribution, tax free or otherwise, is wrong.
One has to live to receive one’s pension, which is of course taxed.
So, if I am correct, Mr Adams and his committee do not seem to have a thorough understanding of the pension fund and, therefore, his well composed letter is mere flim-flam.
