I HAVE only just read the article concerning the council putting up Meals on Wheels charges from £3.10 to £4.34.
This is outrageous, when one considers that the meals are actually delivered free of charge by the gallant volunteers of WVS, retired or semi-retired ladies and gentlemen who turn out to deliver hot meals every day - irrespective of the weather and without any form of payment for their time and trouble.
Apart from delivering hot meals, these gallant volunteers also alert the emergency services should someone on their round fail to answer the door or experiencing a problem.
One wonders why the council needs to grab another £1.24 per day from pensioners who for the most part are unable to cook for themselves.
