I WRITE having just arrived back in the UK, and seen last week’s (August 27) edition of the Telegraph, and wonder if a letter might get published that seeks to address different matters at once....not in any order of importance, merely in order of presentation on page 64 of the above issue...

Firstly John Jones’ letter regarding the proposals at Milford Marina seems to completely miss the discussion as I read it in that the worry voiced on your page was not the effect such a cinema might have on Torch Theatre with its various ways of offering entertainment in a wide variety of genres, but the effect it might have on a long established business in Haverfordwest that would seem to be singularly vulnerable - the cinema near the town centre - which we are told is a family run business with a great deal of time, effort and investment already committed to it, all of which is at stake should it lose its customer base for any reason.

Secondly - complete agreement with Richard Howells in that our elected local councillors, should now be called to account, or rather voted out at the earliest opportunity, and replaced with those who will hopefully remember that they are in office to represent the people of their wards.

Thirdly, the county show.

Let me first say that I fully agree that the event is a vital and effective shop window for the county, its produce, its businesses and its tourism.

I fully support and respect the efforts and skill that go into the planning and running of an event of such stature and complexity, and I congratulate everyone concerned at the undoubted success of this year’s show.

Does it have, though, to be held on what is our county’s only potential commercial airport - effectively ensuring that we have to travel in and out by driving for hours along roads that are poor at best, or on trains that are little improved since Victorian times.
