THE plan to give more “powers”

to the Scottish government and Welsh Assembly is surely code for the national UK exchequer giving them more money to spend than currently the case.

Both devolved authorities have already powers to raise taxes locally but this clearly would not be popular with local residents and funding more borrowing, on top of our current national indebtedness, is unlikely.

So where is the money going to come from?

This is a question for the Prime Minister and the UK government to find an answer.

Will the devolved authorities run local economies so much better with more “powers”

to generate more tax revenue locally?

Will more “powers” require more costly public sector resources and higher paid MSPs and AMs?

Will more “powers” be linked to more responsibility for generating more economic growth and better health and education outcomes in the devolved parts of the UK?

Time will tell but the experience to date gives little hope.

Meanwhile our relationship with the EU, immigration problems, the Islamic extremists issue and the UK economy recovery issue all require full attention by a stable, capable leadership team dedicated to making Great Britain a fair society and great again.

It is only just over seven months before we choose a new UK government responsible for steering our ship of state with skill and good judgement.

We will get the government we deserve when we vote!

As her Majesty the Queen said recently“think carefully!”
