IT IS disappointing that Plaid Cllr Mike Williams has sought to talk down Wales in his letter of December 3, although he is right to point out that Labour, when they were in Government in the UK and currently as rulers of Wales, have done nothing to improve rail and transport links.

However, the UK Government is going ahead with electrifying the main line from London to Swansea, the Valleys line and the Vale of Glamorgan line.

In addition there will be a spur from Reading to Heathrow significantly shortening travel times from the west.

It has also made money available to improve the M4 and by pass the Brynglas tunnel at Newport. All of this is contributing to making Wales a great place to invest and visit and why our unemployment figures continue to fall. These are the first infrastructure projects for our country for generations and come courtesy of a UK Government that believes firmly that Wales is a vital part of the UK.

Cllr Williams assertion that a “nationalist” Government would somehow deliver these projects is absurd at every level.

Firstly, when Plaid were in coalition with Labour in the Assembly, not a single inch of improvements to these vital transport links was made.

Secondly, how would they intend to raise the money in a Wales when they propose to divorce from the rest of the UK?

Thirdly, and most importantly Plaid have three representatives out of 650 in Parliament.

They generally vote with Labour and the Greens on most issues and oppose coalition plans of this nature at every opportunity. Because of this, and the fact that 97% of Wales opposes Plaid’s principal policy of independence, they stand no chance of ever forming a Government.
