I WRITE to report the result of a most successful fundraising and awareness day at Tesco Stores, Cardigan on New Year’s Eve. A total of £559.21 was donated by customers choosing to support The West Wales Prostate Cancer Support Group (TWWPCaSG). Our thanks to the Manager and members of staff and to all customers who gave so generously.

To this sum, can be added £1,350.00 presented to the charity by Emma Thomas at our 10 December Committee meeting; the sum representing half of the profits raised by Emma who organised a recent concert at Llanina Arms, Llanarth, and numerous smaller donations received during December.

Our thanks to all individuals, organisations and local businesses that have made donations in the last twelve months. The good people of West Wales have proved again their generosity to good causes. We would also like to thank all the volunteers who have contributed in any way to our work.

TWWPCaSG was set up in March 2008 and since then we have been privileged to channel funds to our local hospitals for the benefit of prostate cancer patients, to raise funds for research, to educate and raise awareness of this disease and campaign for better services for patients. We are about to release to Hywel Dda University Health Board Urology Service the sum of £15,000 pledged earlier to support the purchase of a new ‘state of the art’ biopsy machine which will enable more accurate diagnosis.

Our main aim is to support men particularly as they go through the process of investigation, diagnosis and treatment for prostate cancer.
