READERS will no doubt be aware that May 8 is the 70th anniversary of a momentous date in our country’s history, VE Day.

In conjunction with officers of County Council, Haverfordwest Museum, Haverfordwest Town Council and the Royal British Legion I have started the ball rolling to let local youngsters participate in what should be very enjoyable and interesting events.

On the actual date of VE Day (May 8) a ceremony will be held at the cenotaph in Haverfordwest at 11am.

On the Saturday just over a week later (May 16) a mock street tea party and tea dance will be held on the castle grounds at 3pm.

A competition is being held in many schools in the Haverfordwest catchment area, in which pupils will be asked to produce posters etc to tie in with the events of May 1945. Winners and runners up from each school will be invited to the tea party free of charge. A nominal charge will be asked of other visitors.

Haverfordwest Museum will be open (children free of charge ) to allow visitors to see the Second World War exhibits.

We are hoping as many people as possible will be able to attend to gain an insight into what was happening over 70 years ago.
