AT FIRST I thought a parliamentary fixed term was a fine idea, but I have now changed my mind as we have had the parties electioneering since the beginning of June and as it appears to be a close finish the two main parties are offering all sorts of ‘bribes’ to the electorate and many of the voters are suspicious that some will evaporate after the election.

We know already that the result will either be a Conservative or Labour win. If the Conservatives win we will see the continuation of their austerity programme and Labour will continue their spend, spend, spend policy.

I am not too concerned who wins as the errors of the elected government can be put right at the next election.

My fear is that while I agree we need to renegotiate our EU membership I do not wish to withdraw from the EU.

If history repeats itself and it could do, then it is important that we stay within the EU. If you trade with a nation you will not go to war against them and that was why the Common Market was created in the first place.

My second fear is that with both parties offering so many concessions to Wales and Scotland, when will we see the fall of the Union of Great Britain and these countries have home rule and what about the monarchy?

Unless we have a positive government after May 7 the question I ask is not if, but when?
