ON September 11 the House of Commons is scheduled to be debating and voting on a Private Member’s Bill on Assisted Dying.
The bill has been introduced by Robin Marris MP, but is similar to an earlier bill proposed by the former Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, which ran out of parliamentary time.
In anticipation of Parliament’s deliberations and in order to allow enough time for people to contact their MP, we are holding an informal debate which should help us to understand what the issues are and the implications.
To help us, we will be joined among others by GP Dr David Richards and the Rt Rev John Saxbee, formerly Bishop of Lincoln.
Some prefer not to think about this issue at all and there are others for whom it is a highly personal and very emotive.
For all of us, the passing of such a bill might have significant consequences.
Let me invite your readers to join us to listen and contribute to this discussion on Thursday, September 3, 8pm, at St Clement’s Hall, St Clement’s Road, Neyland, SA73 1SU. All are Welcome.
The Rev ALAN CHADWICK
