REV Michael Brotherton (Letters, August 19) objects to the wind turbines proposed for the east side of Angle Bay.
But his reasoning is bizarre: he argues for preserving the “picturesque views across the bay towards Rhoscrowther with nothing to see on the horizon apart from the refinery”. Does he really like having in view a carbon-emitting operation which processes imported oil – over which wars are fought, and very dirty political deals are done, and which has a history of sea pollution and explosive incidents? It is surely better to be looking at man-made structures which mitigate climate change and provide safe and secure “home grown” energy, i.e.
wind turbines.
And as for Rev Brotherton calling for the “uniqueness of Angle” to be preserved...
Unless every possible step is taken to reduce energy demand and substitute renewables for fossil fuels, as is now being called for by the heads of many world religions, the settlement of Angle and its environs could be an early casualty of human-induced sea level rise.
