RE: The Sea Empress disaster, 20 years on.

During this incident, WRVS members played an important role in providing food and drinks to workers in the Milford Haven Port Authority Joint Response Centre.

Our members worked at the centre from 7am in the morning making bacon butties, tea and coffee and during the morning sandwiches, etc were taken out to the workers on the contaminated beaches by our volunteers. We continued to do this for 14 days.

To give you an idea of quantities: 300 loaves were used, 560 bacon butties made and 1,500 cups of tea and coffee drunk.

I helped organise the teams at the as I was the WRVS area manager for Pembrokeshire at the time.

A photograph was taken but it not of a good quality.

The WRVS was part of the huge team of people who played a part in this enormous rescue operation to restore our beaches to their former glory.
