I WATCHED the ceremony and pageant during the state opening of Parliament and the Queen’s Speech and the Queen and Duke being taken in a splendid carriage drawn by well groomed horses to the House of Lords.
The Queen delivered her speech in her usual dignified manner, but it must have been one of the least ambitious Queen’s Speeches I have ever heard. I must pose the question does this annual event warrant such pomp and ceremony at such great expense?
The Queen could have easily sent an e-mail to the Prime Minister who did in the first place write by the speech.
I was very disappointed in the Wales Bill which included, “A move to allow the Assembly to make laws in any area not reserved by Westminster”
... “Give powers to the Assembly over areas including pots, energy projects up to 350MW, fracking, speed limits, bus service, sewage, plus control of its elections, size and name” ... “Scrapping the requirements for a referendum before the Assembly can gain income tax powers”.
A week earlier during the Assembly Election one of the questions we were asked was, “Should the Assembly be abolished?”
Without any canvassing or publicity it polled the staggering figure of 44,000 and the question now being asked is should we have a referendum to do away with the Welsh Assembly?
