THANK you for your article about Transition Cafe in Fishguard. I am angered at the idea of it closing because of all it has done for me and for other young people in the area.

I had been unemployed for most of two years when the cafe took me on as a volunteer.

Then they helped me to get onto the Jobs Growth Wales scheme, and when that came to an end, the cafe has continued to employ me.

Over the past three years I have gained experience in a wide range of skills – when I started at the cafe I couldn’t cook, but with the help of some of the volunteers who are very experienced cooks, I began to learn cookery skills and am now producing some really good and being in charge of the kitchen.

Transition Cafe has has helped me to gain a Level 2 NVQ in customer service and a Food Hygiene certificate which will be of great help to me in my future career.

But what has been most important for me is that when I started at the cafe I was nervous, shy and had very low self confidence. Now I have skills for life and have made some very close friends. If the cafe were to close there would be a great loss in the community.
