SEVERAL years ago I wrote you a letter which you were kind enough to print. I said how sad it was that local hoteliers or publicans could not offer a much smaller lunch at a reasonable price for elderly people living alone, as I am.

This year, much to my joy a two-course or three-course Christmas Day lunch was offered by The Bush, in Robeston Wathan.

I took advantage of this and had the best Christmas Day lunch for many years, with staff who were so helpful in making sure I was comfortably seated (securing a hot water bottle at my back to help pain), took me to the carvery counter, carried my plate back to my table and even offered to pull my cracker with me.

Nothing was too much trouble to make an elderly lady feel at home. Sadly there was no-one to share my tiny table but the good side was that I am very deaf and socialising is very difficult.

Anyway if I reach my 90th next year, I so hope they will be repeating this most excellent Christmas Day lunch.
