CHANGES to paediatric provisions have been causing lots of concern recently, so I thought I’d highlight a really good service we have for children in Pembrokeshire.

The Special Needs Assessment Playgroup (Snap) is a charity which operates two playgroups for young children with special needs.

The children each have an allocated play worker who works with them intensively to develop language, motor and social skills.

Professionals visit the children in Snap to assess and provide interventions. As a parent this means I have to take my child to fewer clinic appointments and the professional gets to see her at her best in a relaxed and natural play setting.

The staff at Snap celebrate and value the children who attend. For parents who are used to hearing bad news this has been really positive and empowering.

The input each child receives is closely monitored and progress is tracked over time.

This provides valuable information when it comes to making diagnoses and planning for the future.

My daughter has finished her time at Snap and will be attending a mainstream playgroup with support to make the transition. She can’t tell me how much she enjoyed her time at Snap but it was clear every time I collected her – she was buzzing, vocal and really happy!

If you see someone fundraising for Snap please consider contributing so that more children in Pembrokeshire can benefit from this amazing service.
