I REFER to reports in the Western Telegraph of February 8 which have caused me to be puzzled and troubled about the future of our county and how it is administered locally and nationally with impunity.

On page 4 we are informed that the Hywel Dda Health Board is expected to run a deficit of £51 million.

How can anyone run – Mr Macawber-like – a deficit without dire consequences to the service?

What are the plans to reduce this deficit?

Does this imply that the board management is not fit for the purpose and if so how can this be remedied?

On page 14 Stephen Crabb MP is reported as saying that “Brexit won’t mean immigration cuts” as expected by those who voted to leave.

As one of those who voted to leave for various reasons including a wake-up call to the establishment and their seemingly condescending and almost contemptuous attitude to the “little people”, I understood that one of the aims was to “control” immigration and save us from the chaos in other parts of Europe.

On page 20 in respect of the £1million loan for Milford Haven intended “to bring underused sites and premises in town centres back into use”.

As someone who has lived in Milford Haven since 1964 I have difficulty believing that the Hakin bridge site is part of the town centre and would like someone who administers the “Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places Town Centre Loans Fund” to explain how this has been allowed to happen.

These instances and the many others we read about daily tempt me to think that those placed in authority do not seem to realise the impact these have on our rank and file citizens who struggle day by day to survive with dignity.

It was Voltaire who wrote – “With great power comes great responsibility”.
