My money wasted on ‘drug’ charge A copy of a letter sent to Mr Llewellyn the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed-Powys.

I have just read in the Western Telegraph about the case of John Eaton and his prosecuted ‘drug’ offence. Perhaps you could explain to me how you, the local police force and the CPS can justify spending court time on such a frivolous ‘crime’ as carrying 0.5g of cannabis?

Surely a caution would have been the prudent thing to do here instead of wasting council tax money that we pay for?

All you managed to receive from the individual was £85 in court costs and a £20 surcharge – which I am pretty sure didn’t come anywhere near enough to cover the cost of lawyers, a judge, police attending court and more than likely a subsidised defence lawyer!

I take great umbrage in being given a council tax bill, of which £261.40 is for you and your local police force, when that local police force is wasting it on nonsense like this.

I suggest they do their job a bit better and catch some real and dangerous criminals rather than a minor user.

This is not how I want my money wasted by the police and CPS, nor would I think many other constituents of Pembrokeshire county.

This is a total waste of public money that could have been spent on proper crime prevention – not least finding the actual drug dealers rather than some individual who is carrying a paracetamol’s weight worth of a class B drug. Absolutely ridiculous.

Perhaps you could write back to me with some sort of justification for this rather frivolous use of public money, my money, that falls under your remit.
