I HAVE just received my council tax demand for 2017/8. Within it, is shown a surcharge for Police and Crime Commissioner of approximately 25%.

Also included was a breakdown of policing income/ expenditure with a gross expenditure total of just over £111 million, and various grants and subsidies reducing the local cost to us.

The population of Pembrokeshire is at the latest count, about 123,000.

On a rough estimate of, say, three persons average per dwelling, that gives an average cost of £2,580 per household, before subsidies are taken into account.

This is incredible. I think we deserve to have a breakdown of actual expenditure.

I can’t think what could cost so much and where the benefit to most of us lies.

And assuming our police force is competently run by the Chief Constable, I still do not understand the relevance of the Crime Commissioner and his entourage.

THIS morning the council tax demand dropped through the door with no statement of percentage increase over last year and no explanation.

The Dyfed Powys Police Commissioner increased by 6.9% with no explanation.

Has anyone’s income risen by 6.9% this year?

Note: our councillors voted to increase their already obscene salaries and expenses.
