I AM really astonished by the apathy shown by all of us (myself included) who bank at Natwest, Narberth, which is closing in June.

Viv Stoddart’s is the only letter you have published about it.

There will soon be a meeting with the bank and local businesses. They claim a footfall of only 46 people a week – which is ridiculous.

When Tenby closed two years ago many customers moved to Narberth and to now suggest it is acceptable to have just two branches – Haverfordwest and Carmarthen – is offering a very poor service for Pembrokeshire.

They take the attitude that we are all online. False premise.

They claim that we can do everything at the Post Office.

False. You cannot do faster payments, your cheques will take another day to clear.

You cannot pay HMRC tax bills and cannot do BACS or CHAPS and without our wonderful bank staff, elderly people who are scammed might not be helped by the staff ’s knowledge of their customers.

In England a town mounted a petition against their closure which was dismissed by the bank as they found 80 per cent of the signatories did not bank with them.

So if you do bank with Natwest and feel strongly about its closure start complaining now. Please start writing and give your reasons why they should not close the bank. Their address is Natwest Bank, 33 High Street, Narberth SA67 7AD (keep copies) or email fm-040075@ rbos.co.uk We need this branch, especially as local traders have noticed less custom since HSBC closed. Unless we fight now it will be too late.
