Time doth heal

Dear editor, TWO years ago this May my mother passed away, but she lived over 82 years, 48 of which I was blessed to share with her.

Undoubtedly the most difficult place to be in is loss or grief. If there were changes in the NHS, I would like to see it implemented that the grieving can have immediate help and support at the first port of call, their GPs.

They say that counselling is expensive. This cost should never be under-estimated and shock is one of the initial parts that follows after a loss. Also, the grieving may have no relations around in some cases and are especially vulnerable, so isolation is another issue.

I found myself completely alone following that day in May 2008. The pain is softening now but the GP I saw was not at all sympathetic and now I have moved here, my new doctor is absolutely brilliant, as I left the last practice in dismay.

That initial consultation could have had lasting implications.

Yet I must have my mother’s resilience, as I did not let it bother or phase me. If you put a mind to it, believe me, ‘time doth heal’.

If anyone reading this is bereaved, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
