Angle RNLI and the Port of Milford Haven responded to an incident in which a man was injured after falling overboard at sea this afternoon (Monday).

A mayday was sent from the Spanish fishing boat the Vidar, after the crew member had been lost overboard near Turbot Bank, at the mouth of the Haven at approximately 3.40pm.

The crew had managed to get the man back aboard and the trawler was heading for Milford Haven, when Angle RNLI's all weather lifeboat arrived on the scene.

Two crew members transferred to the boat to administer casualty care to the man, who was in a serious condition.

A Milford Haven Port vessel left to pick up paramedics, but the RAF rescue helicopter 169 arrived on the scene before they were transferred from shore.

The fisherman was transferred from the boat by helicopter, to Withybush Hospital, after the boat was able to make its way to Milford Shelf, by Milford Dock.

The Port continues to operate normally. The RNLI boat returned to station at 5.08pm.
