The decision to again refer Hywel Dda Health Board's controversial shake-up of NHS services in west Wales to the Health Minister has been backed by a local Assembly Member.

The referral made by the Hywel Dda Community Health Council, the patients' watchdog, is the second time the plans have been sent to the Health Minister.

The plans include the closure of the Special Care Baby Unit at Withybush Hospital.

Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies backed the move by the CHC.

He said: “I would like to once again congratulate the local community health council on their efforts to stand up against these plans, and speak up on behalf of the people of Pembrokeshire.

"It is crucial that the Welsh Government now takes responsibility for our health service and that the new Minister listens to the people of Pembrokeshire.

"I look forward to hearing his response to this development in due course. I will continue to raise this issue at the Assembly at every available opportunity, so that the views of the people of Pembrokeshire continue to be heard loud and clear.”
