Police officers have been carrying out covert patrols at Neyland Marina to tackle the ongoing problems of anti-social driving in the area.

Milford Haven Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has carried out patrols over a “sustained period” to identify the motorists involved.

Officers have been focusing on the main car park at the marina, as well as the junction where the marina meets Picton Road.

"The actions of specific individuals are having a serious effect on residents, as well as causing a danger to other road users," a spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said.

The patrols aim to gather the evidence needed to prosecute offenders. The police will also be informing insurance companies about anybody who’s driving falls below the standard of a “reasonably competent” driver.

Police plan on continuing overt and covert patrols, supported by Pembrokeshire Roads Policing Unit, as well as vehicle checks, which will include checking for noise pollution from exhausts.

Officers are also working with other parties to review what can be done to improve the area and make it a less attractive venue for 'girl and boy racers'.

NPT Sgt Martin Vaughan said: “It is disappointing for us to have to enforce legislation due to a very small number of individuals which ultimately will affect a far larger number of motorists.

“However, the safety of other road users and residents alike is my main responsibility and we will take the necessary action to address this problem.

“What has surprised me is the fact that a number of the offenders are actually grown adults with respectable employment, yet choose to act like children and have total disregard for others.

“Their actions will undoubtedly result in serious injury or perhaps something worse if left unchallenged and I would ask that those responsible cease this behaviour, and take the safety of other road users and residents into consideration when behind the wheel of their cars.”
