A MILFORD Haven beach had to be cordoned off by police this weekend, after a live grenade was uncovered by the waves.
The device, which was spotted by a passer-by on Gelliswick beach on Saturday (March 1), was destroyed in a controlled explosion by the MOD on Monday (March 3).
Helping control the situation were Dale and Milford Haven coastguards.
A spokesman for Milford Haven Coastguard said recent bad weather had thrown up lots of unexpected items on local beaches, many of them harmless.
She added that if anyone comes across a suspicious item, it is always best to ring the emergency services.
If below the high watermark, people should ring the coastguard, but if the item is on land, ring the police straight away.
