MILFORD Haven Town Council has decided to ‘look again’ at whether the town rider service is providing good value for money.

The service, which provides a door-to-door service for people with mobility issues, is currently only being used by 36 people.

At a committee meeting last month, several councillors raised the issue of whether there is a cheaper way of providing a similar service.

“We’ve got a duty to look at value for money for rate payers who don’t use the service,” said Cllr Rhys Sinnett.

Cllr Stephen Joseph questioned whether there was a possibility of combining the service with other local groups and day centres, making it more worth the money.

He added that the council may need to become “more proactive in promoting it”.

At a meeting of full council, members resolved to take £2,000 from council reserves to help pay for running costs in the interim, but agreed to look into ways to improve how the service was used and consider possible alternatives such as taxi firm contracts.
