Police have confirmed that a 42 year-old man has died in an incident that has led to a busy Haverfordwest town centre road being closed throughout today (Saturday).

The death of Daniel Sturgess, referred to as Danny and also known as Danny Large, is currently being treated as unexplained.

He was found in the road on the dual carriageway section of Cartlett Road.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: "At approximately 00:40hrs on Saturday April 12th 2014 an unconscious 42 year old man was discovered in the carriageway on Cartlett Road, Haverfordwest, by a passing motorist.

"Ambulance personnel attended and conveyed the man to Withybush hospital, where he sadly passed away. "Next of Kin have been informed. The 42 year old was Daniel Sturgess, referred to as Danny, and he was also known as Danny Large. He lived in Haverfordwest. An investigation is underway into the circumstances of this unexplained death , and we are appealing for witnesses, or anyone that was in the area of Cartlett Road between midnight and 00:40hrs this morning and can provide any information to contact us on 101.

"We are also keen to speak to anyone who saw him or knows what his movements were between midday yesterday (Friday 11/4/14) and 00:40hrs this morning (Saturday 12/4/14) – please call 101." The carriageway at Cartlett Road - between the Morrisons roundabout andSalutation Square - remains closed, and diversions are in place.

The police spokesman added: "We thank the community for their understanding and patience in this matter whilst the investigation is ongoing, and will provide updates as appropriate."
