AN AREA plagued by fly-tipping has been given a new lease of life thanks to local volunteers.

Members of Castle Pill Boat Club got stuck into clearing a strip of land at the bottom of Cellar Hill, Milford Haven, which for years had been littered with rubbish and debris.

The club hired a mini digger to scoop up the rubbish, which included several old tyres that had washed up on the shore.

Skips provided by Pembrokeshire County Council were then used to rid the land of rubbish once and for all.

Club secretary, Louis Howe, said he was grateful to all club members who gave up their time to help clean up the area, which is used by club members, dog walkers, hikers on the coastal path and the public.

A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council said it was pleased to assist in the project through the Tidy Towns initiative - funded by the Welsh Government.
