PUPILS from Coastlands School in St. Ishmaels have made another great step forward in their work as an eco and sustainable school.

Involving the whole community, from parents, pupils, friends, members of the Women’s Institute and local businesses, the school collected 173 bags of old shoes, bags, clothes and other unwanted textiles which would otherwise have been dumped in landfill sites.

Before the bags were collected, the children had great fun piling them into a great heap near the school pond, and seeing just how much they had saved for recycling.

Having been collected, the bags will now be weighed and, under a scheme called ‘Science into Schools’, Coastlands will be able to earn new science equipment for their school.
